Product Description
Raymond Weil S.A. turns 30 years old in 2006. This relative newcomer to watchmaking circles has already defined a niche for itself. Its Parsifal line, launched in 1991, is easily recognizable and enjoys considerable success. Named for classical and operatic music, Raymond Weil's watch collections are simultaneously modern and classical, embellished with luxurious touches like sapphire cabochons on the crown, luminescent pearls on the dial, and ideal-cut diamonds on the bezel. In recent years, the watchmaker has moved further upscale with introductions of mechanical movements and complications. Stainless steel case, Brown leather strap, push button deployant clasp, black dial, Chronograph feature (hours, minutes, seconds), luminous hands and hour markers, Day and date displayed at the 3 o'clock position, water resistance up to 330 feet( 100 meters).

By Simon
I went to my local AD to buy a black Tag Heuer Carrera Day Date, and strangely enough, I ended up with an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean XL with the new 8500 movement. However after a few weeks, I missed the chronograph, so when a fellow watch enthusiast put this Raymond Weil Freelance Chronograph for sale, I couldn't resist. Although Raymond Weil quality is top notch, for some unknown reasons, their watches are not popular in the community and have the worst resale value of Swiss made watches. If you can take advantage of this fact, either by lowering down the price of a new watch, or buying it used, you will end up with an almost perfect watch. The quality of this RW is as good as any Tag Heuer that I've seen in the Carrera line, and many of them even share the same ETA movement (Valjoux 7750). I would say Tag is more refined in smaller areas like deployment buckle and strap, but other than that you can get an almost identical watch with a fraction of the price. The only shortcomings of this watch are the leather strap quality and the sharp edges of deployment buckle which are at times uncomfortable. Tag and Omega use a different type of design for their deployments, and you never feel the metal against your skin. However, the inside part of the deployment buckle in RW actually touches your wrist a lot. Since I am listing shortcomings here, it is good to mention that the Valjoux 7750 movement has some kind of wobble and noisy effect. It is completely normal and well documented to hear the noise and feel the effect on your wrist. Now, it is time for all the good things. The chronograph feature is nice and works great. I like the yellow color of second hand in chronograph. The other markers are also beautiful, and the luminescence power is fantastic. There is no lume at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock markers, but it actually makes the watch sportier. Considering the look, this watch is in between classy and sporty. This Freelancer model comes in different styles and colors, and if you prefer a sportier look, check the black PVD Urban version out.The watch comes with double sided anti-reflex scratch-resistance sapphire crystals on front and exhibition case back. The dial color is black, so later you can exchange the brown strap with better quality black crocodile leather, and enjoy the new look and feel. The new alligator straps from Hirsch are even 100M water resistant, so you can never go wrong with them. The power reserve of this watch is 46 hours which is about two days. If you plan to use it in a winder, the Orbita website recommends 800 TPD clock-wise setting for this watch to maintain its power reserve. However, some people like to use higher settings and turn the device off each night. If you can get over the quality of strap and the noise, this is a very nice watch that deserves more recognition in the community. Other than this, the watch has a solid movement and a beautiful design. In addition, you can always get aftermarket straps. For the price you can find this watch these days, and I have heard up to 50% off retail, you can never go wrong with the purchase.
